I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College, Chicago, with a focus in Animation. From there, I travelled to Auckland, New Zealand working at Toonz Animation Studio as an inbetweener for episodes of the Timon and Pumbaa Disney television series and Tales From The Crypt: The Third Pig. In 1996, I returned to the States and began working at Humongous Entertainment in Seattle as an animator on Freddy Fish, Putt Putt and the Backyard Sports series games for the PC. My passion for animation and painting merged at Big Fish Games where I worked as a senior animator. While there, I provided many styles of animation on Mystery Case File, the Drawn adventure games, Fetch and several other fun titles for mobile. In my freelance work, I have had the pleasure of providing animation for some amazing documentary film makers in the Seattle area.
My desire to become a better painter lead me to study with Juliette Aristides at the Gage Academy in the traditional method of realist painting with oils. I am inspired by master painters of the past and present and enjoy implementing their various techniques into my own landscape and still life paintings and drawings. As an avid lover of the outdoors, it only felt natural to pursue plein air painting, a.k.a. painting outdoors.
I aspire to live life completely, honestly and compassionately, with a healthy dose of imagination to tell stories through painting and animation. I use art to capture moments in time, objects and landscapes that I once shared with those dearest to me or experienced on my own in reflection. I feel compelled by the need to capture those colors provided by the natural world around me. It's the desire to freeze those fleeting moment in time as light moves across a plain. When I paint outdoors, everything seem to stop for me. I try to incorporate texture, optical color effects and value while creating an image.
